Palazzo Reale in Milan is the first leg of world tour of the masterpieces of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, the prestigious American collection of Williamstown, which includes 73 major works of nineteenth-century French , created by 26 artists including Renoir, Monet, Edouard Manet, Morisot and Pissarro. 
On the occasion of the exhibition, at Palazzo Reale from March 2 to June 19, are also exposed fundamental works barbizonniers of painters such as Corot, Millet, and Rousseau, as well as paintings of the more academic painters of the time, such as Bouguereau, Gérôme, and Stevens, and post-impressionists such as Bonnard, Gauguin and Toulouse-Lautrec, the exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalog , published by Skira with Clark, with essays by James A. Ganz and Richard R. Brettell. The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Culture, Milan, Arthemisia Group and the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. 
THE CLARK COLLECTION - The works on display are part of the Clark collection, whose core and history was acquired between 1910 and 1950 by Robert Sterling Clark, one of the heirs of the assets of Singer sewing machines, and his wife Francine Clary Clark. In 1955 was born in Williamstown, at the behest of Mr and Mrs Clark, the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, an institution that has brought the collection to grow more through acquisitions and donations. Currently, the holding of Clark brings together nearly 8,000 items, including important collections of 500 paintings and works on paper and decorative art. After the Royal Palace, the Clark collection will be housed in France, the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, from July 13 to October 31, 2011, in Spain, CaixaForum in Barcelona from 18 November 2011 to 12 February 2012 then proceed in major museums around the world. 
ROUTE SECTIONS 10 AND ITS EXPOSED - The exhibition is curated by Richard Rand of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute and the course, organized with the expert advice of Stephen Zuffi, is divided into ten sections focusing on key themes that testify to the stylistic and technical innovations of the second half of the nineteenth century: Printing, light, nature, city and countryside, Ocean, Travel, Society, Body, Faces, Pleasures.
